What is the Digitized Newspaper Project?
The Digitized Newspaper Project was undertaken by the Huron County Library and Huron County Museum to digitize more than a century’s worth of historical Huron County newspapers from across the county and make them accessible to anyone, anywhere, on-line for free.
Where is the project at now?
To date, more than 16,700 historical newspaper issues have been digitized and the files have been accessed by thousands of researchers each year. The collection includes newspapers from 1848 to 2008 from across all of Huron County.
Thousands more newspapers are still waiting to be digitized and we need your financial support to continue.
How will the money I donate be spent?
The Digitization Process:
Huron County staff gather microfilm and hardcopy holdings and send them to an outside vendor to be professionally digitized. When the files are returned, staff check for quality, process the tiff files, apply OCR (Optical Character Recognition), and upload the finished pdf files on-line.
The money you donate will pay for the digitization expense and dedicated project staff.
How can I access the Digitized Newspapers?
The digitized newspapers are available on-line:

The weekly newspapers carry local, regional, national and international stories that are of great value to students, teachers, historians, genealogists and researchers.
Ask your local librarian for more information on how to use the digitized newspapers’ search engine to make your next research project a breeze!
