Wednesday, April 3, 2019 – David Yates: “How to Write a Story” – from idea to research, shaping the story, and writing the finished product.
Wednesday, May 1, 2019 – Heather Lavalee: “Unknown Ancestry Databases.” Heather is the Branch Manager, Seaforth and Brussels Branches, Huron County Library. She will illuminate these under-used resources, which are available on Ancestry in all Huron County libraries.
Wednesday, June 5, 2019 – Marlene Thornton: “Follow the Drinking Gourd” – black history in the town of Lucan
Wednesday, July 3, 2019 – Arlyn Montgomery: “Navigating the OnLand Portal (Teranet-Express)” – using this relatively new website to access land abstract index books and general register index books
Wednesday, August 7, 2019 – Deb McAuslan – “When New York was New Netherlands” – a look at 17th century Dutch settlement of New York before English occupation: the culture, the politics, and the people
Wednesday, September 4, 2019 – Ruth Burkholder: “The Canada Company” – learn how and where to access records regarding the people who were enticed to the New World by this company which existed for 100 years and was instrumental in settling much of western Ontario.
Wednesday, October 2, 2019 – Michael Molnar, Archivist: “Making the Most of the Museum Archives” – what are the most frequently consulted resources of the Huron County Museum, and what are the least sought out or the hidden treasures; possible tour of the renovated research facilities.
Wednesday, November 6, 2019 – Family Portrait Night (five-minute presentations – treasures, discoveries, breakthroughs, and Aha! moments) and Annual Business Meeting
